How to Write a Catchy Tag

What is a tag?


A description tag is a short piece of HTML code that gives a description of the website. The tag shows up in search engine searches right under the name of the site. Good tags get more clicks. More clicks lead to more customers.


So what is the secret to a good tag?


Before we can get to what a good tag is, we have to establish what is required. Google will only show tags that have a semantic similarity between the tag and the content on the site. They also require similarity between the user’s search words and the words in the tag. Writing a good tag comes down to words and SEO (search engine optimization. This is important because the purpose of a tag is to get your website to show up with potential customers and to attract them to your website.


Writing a Good Tag


Keep it short and sweet. 155 words. Google only shows 160 words in the tag. The rest is ellipses. So make the first 155 words count.


Accurate and authentic. While the goal is to get more people to click on your link, the means should not be deceit. If a potential customer arrives at your website and feels that she has been misled, what are the chances she will use your services? What else do you lie about, she just thought?


Before you write your tag, consider your audience. Write those 155 words for them. Your words should be the perfect match for them!


Sell your business. What is it that you do better than your competitors. Make sure that is in there!


Consider adding contact info in those 155 words. If your ideal customer will use your website to call you to finish the transaction, why not add your phone number in those 155 words. Make it easy for them to find you and get what they need.
